At first I wasn’t really excited to go to Vietnam. All I know about Vietnam is probably what you know as well. A good 49 years ago there was a war waging in this beautiful country.
But it turned out to be so much more! Seeing Vietnam as a place where there was only a war is the same as saying South Africa as a place where people live in huts and where lions walk around in our streets.
We mostly just built relationships with the people. We taught English, had English conversation sessions with the locals, played some sports (mainly soccer), we also helped to paint the host’s house and helped out at Company of Grace disability centre.
We also got a lot of opportunities to sightsee Vietnam and we traveled trough the crazy traffic with motorcycles!
The team got a chance to figure things out in terms of roles within the team and how to stimulate team growth and growth with God! Most of the team were also challenged with learning to spend time with God, even if things are going good/ comfortable. If things are going good/ comfortable, it’s easy to skip quiet time, but when things are going bad/ uncomfortable, it’s easier to have quiet time and easier to be more dependent on God.
We have started our ministry time in Laos. More busy than Vietnam. I am excited to see what lies ahead and to share with you what God is doing, and going to do, in our time here!
