Have you ever lost yourself in a person, a situation or an addiction? Well, I have. Many times!
The question I ask myself the most is: "Who am I?". Whenever I struggle with a situation, or argue with someone, I always go back to my core. Throughout my life, I struggled to find my true identity and I always relied on other people or things to make me unique.
These past couple of weeks, I was confronted with this specific question once again. I came to realise that I am not other people, I am not depression, I am not smoking. I realised that, all this time, my focus was on earthly things. The moment that I turned my heart up to Heaven, I came to the conclusion, I am a child of God!
I was overwhelmed by the simplicity of the answer to my question, although those words carry much weight.
1. I am chosen - As for us, we can’t help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation - a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. (2 Thessalonians 2:13)
2. I am forgiven - He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. (Psalm 103:12)
3. I am accepted - So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)
4. I am blessed - Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? (Romans 8:32)
5. I am redeemed - He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. (Ephesians 1:7)
6. I am loved - Â This is real love - not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (1 John 4:10)
7. I am adopted - Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. (Galatians 4:7)
8. I am victorious - But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)
Therefore I find my true identity in Christ.
