During my stay in Jordan I have developed a new outlook on life. As we disembarked, the name of this capital city of Jordan came to mind. Amman means steadfastness and perseverance. Now, looking back on our mission in Jordan, I realise that the people here are blessed with these two noble qualities.
We were welcomed with open arms by our hosts, their friendly hospitality made us feel completely at home. I felt humbled by these people who so unselfishly deliver humanitarian assistance to the hundreds of refugees fleeing from the war-torn Syria. What a heart-rendering experience to see the hopelessness, pain and despair reflected in the being of these poor refugees. Fleeing for their lives out of their homes and country with literally only the clothes they are wearing. Exhausted, hungry mothers carrying tired bare-foot toddlers on their backs and in their arms.
The church here do what they can to feed and clothe them. We got the chance to go and visit some of these families to just be an ear to listen and show them that we care about them, we even got to tell some Bible stories and in some cases pray with them. Most of these families have been torn apart and they have no means of contact with their loved-ones from whom they have been seperated. They don't know whether their family members are even still alive.
The suffering of these people is such an eye opener and it made me realise how much I have to be thankful for. It's amazing to see what God is busy doing under these people, His people! May the Lord bring peace to these war-ravaged countries.
On every visit you experience something else, you can also sense the joy of these people, through all the horrific stories.
Worst of all were the stories about some of the children and what they had to endure. This really broke my heart and I could just imagine how saddened the Lord should be. Praying to God in despair I asked Him how I could reach out to these broken people. Suddenly I realised that the Holy Spirit was within me and God assured me that I should not worry because I am fully equipped and that I must just share His Grace with these people around me.
In their hearts these poor people are looking for answers. God hear and listens to all of our prayers and He will mercifully touch these searching, broken souls. Only Jesus can help them to experience the healing power and the joy of God's unconditional love...
