To my beloved fellow believers and fellow workers in Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ
Take a moment, forget where you are, what you are busy with and imagine with me
- Imagine not being worried about whether your shoes go with the color of your shirt
- Imagine not being worried about the Guess/Levi label printed on your jean Imagine you had no DKNY or ChanelNo5 perfume to put on this morning
- Imagine not having a wardrobe to put your clothes in Imagine not having a room to call your own
- Imagine not having electricity in your kitchen Imagine not having to decide which knives/forks/plates to take out for guests because you only have one set
- Imagine not having a fridge Imagine not having a freezer Imagine not having Woolies or Pick n Pay or Spar to do shopping at
- Imagine killing and preparing the chicken yourself Imagine sharing that one chicken with a whole community
- Imagine the doors of your house being open to the community, regardless of qualification, race or believe system
- Imagine not driving past 3, 4 or 5 churches to attend the church that suite your needs the best
- Imagine going to church with the purpose to serve and not to receive
- Imagine not having a car to drive with Imagine being the only Christian businessman in your city
- Imagine driving hours to meet with fellow-believers and to have fellowship in Christ
- Imagine giving up your country of birth to go where God have called you to go Imagine having all family bonds broken because you believe in Jesus Christ
- Imagine Jesus Christ, being enough.
Let me introduce you to the missionary family in StLouis, Senegal. Where hearts abound in thankfulness and joy for having clothes, for having running water and for having a rooster to slaughter for the Passover meal. A family who cherish every moment with fellow believers. A house that stands open to the community, regardless of race, ethnicity and religion at any time. A family that believes that their every need will be met even though they have no constant source of income (Can you imagine that!!). A house where the Spirit of the Lord is felt. A house where you are awaken with hymns of praise. During my time in Senegal my world, my view on Christian life, has been shook. With joy I realise that this life is short, that a great award that awaits this family. I recall the passage in Matthew. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. FOR WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS, THERE YOUR HEART WILL BE ALSO. Earthly things will also come to pass. Today’s best will be old tomorrow. But what this family is investing in is heavenly riches that will stand till the end of time. May you be challenged the same way I was challenged with the question, if all earthly things are taken from me, will I still be content in Jesus Christ. May we come to a place where we can say boldly, YES LORD, YES!
