Project vs pilgrimage

8 months to travel Africa, 2 months to prepare…

How do we make that as effective as possible? Where do you go, where do you stay? What do you do and what do you pray? I can think of a 100 programs to run, we can plan everyday of a 8 month journey and head out to fix the world, with the superman song playing in the background.

Somehow I hear the words “sweet surrender” in the back of my head. Could be that we are not called to fix Africa with strategic planning and a 100 projects? Could it be that God called us to surrender and submit, to follow His quiet voice wherever He leads? Will we be more effective by living a God-seeking lifestyle, embracing and testifying to Grace and serving there where we see God at work?

It takes almost all of me to lay my picture of 2012 - together with my plans and dreams - on God’s table, trading it for a blank cheque.

Explore Africa will be a pilgrimage to the true heart of God, ourselves and Africa. Submitted to each other, loving God and serving the nations we will seek God’s heart and character in different cultures and settings. With bus and train we will reach those which God has prepared for us to meet, sharing the message that He put in our hearts.

Journey with us as we seek out God’s heart and plan for Africa, as we discover who we were meant to be and as we share our testimonies of God’s grace to a continent in bondage. Pray with and for us as we stumble and fall in our quest for obedience and celebrate the victories with us.

To God be the glory and the honour and the praise. May His greatness echo from the hills and valleys of Africa.
