A while in the making….
We were chilling out at the church in Jeffrey’s Bay, having debrief sessions and pondering mission statements. I was quite distracted, there was a bird flying every where inside, I wanted to be at home but at the same time nothing in me wanted to leave the incredible people around me. I was rather lost. 2011 was packed full of excitement, revelation and adventure but what did I really do?
We were given some homework and so one of the mornings I was reading through Mark 5:1-20, where Jesus heals the demon possessed man. At the end the man wants to go with him but “Jesus did not let him, “but said, “Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you” (Mark 5:19). It was in that where I realized so much of what the Lord has done for me. I am no different to that man; Jesus has healed me and set me free from a stack of things, some I didn’t even know I was stuck in, just like the demon possessed man. The Lord brought freedom from sins of shyness, selfishness, self-consciousness, doubt and faithlessness, more than that, He put in me a love for people, children and Gods word. He used people from all over the world and especially my team to help me to a new understanding of who God is and what we are to him.
From that I was reminded of early in training, understanding that trying all my best to change my heart was never going to be enough. And looking back now, getting out of the way and giving Jesus a crack at all of you is the only way He will change you into everything He wants. Yes, it will have times when you would rather run straight back to who were before, someone will probably have to give you a gentle shove in the right direction. But as time passes and moments of victory come more often, all you can do is rejoice and praise God.
So what did I do in 2011?
I learnt to get out of the way, to let Jesus be the healer of my heart- to listen to what He is asking of me and do it. It doesn’t look all that much… but I know it will be taking me a while longer to every day, every moment be doing just that.
Huge thank you to Global challenge family 2011 and all of you who have read blogs and emails. LOVE IT!
