Suriname, expect the unexpected...

Crossing the Guyanese border with a ferry into the Dutch speaking country of Suriname... Not wanting to rest our eyes, when there is so much to see... Wooden houses build on stilts, coloured flags every where, all sorts of new fruits to try while seeing so many warm smiling faces...

After a whole day of traveling we arrived at Hebron mission school where we were warmly welcomed by some of the students who just finished their garden duties...

After settling in, Pastor Moestafa came to greet us with a big smile. As one of the teachers at the mission school we could really learn a lot from him, for he has such a passion when he starts talking about God and even tears up when he explains all that God has done in his life...

In this time we joined in with the students in their morning and afternoon duties, pulling out weeds, cleaning and sweeping bathrooms, helping in the kitchen, cutting grass, collecting and cleaning eggs, cleaning and cutting up some fish! We also joined the morning prayers, which was very encouraging.

Pastor Moestafa arranged some church services for us to go to, some were in town, one was deep in the interior of the jungle and then meeting up with Pastor Robby we went to a youth camp on an island on the French Guyana border. We sat in on the services that was full of drama's, sining and dancing and very loud music...

Back at the mission school we had time to spend with the students and with some of the staff members, we were very blessed by their stories and just sharing with us the little they had...

We were also blessed with a day out to Paramaribo. Pastor Moestafa and his wife took us to see the Waterkant(waterfront) and went for a long walk, a walk through history passing the old fort and a lot of old houses on the side which they keep as heritage sites. Lilien( pastors's wife) also took us for a walk through the Palemntuine(palm garden) telling stories of historic events while gazing up at the big towering palm trees.

We had a very blessed time in Suriname, we learned a lot from God and we are very excited for our next country Guyana...
