Holy Ground

"What we do, does not define who we are. What defines us is how well we rise after falling."

It has been a while since I've seen words come to life in such an inspiring way. Rwanda is a beautiful chapter in this journey. So beautiful that there aren't any words to truly express how much influence it has had in my own thoughts and especially my relationship with our beautiful Saviour. I look forward to more chapters with you in it.

You have taught me so much. Not only about your people but also about myself. I loved spending time going through the pages of your history, but I loved seeing where you and your people are today and still strive to become. "The past is frozen and no longer flows and the present is all lit up with eternal rays." (C.S. Lewis)

Your country is and can be an inspiration to so many. Just think what our world will be like if we all started looking up and looking forward together, instead of keeping one eye on the past and never truly getting away from it. Rwanda you chose to move forward despite all the things that happened to you. Because you realized that staying in the past, will only keep you from moving forward to so many better things. I think this is how we are supposed to be in the world - present and in awe. Constantly striving to be better than you were and constantly relying on God. Knowing that we cannot do this on our own.

It's because of Rwanda I look at the blessings which God has bestowed upon me, in my life. He has given me the vision to truly see that you can fall down, but you can always get back up. That you can strengthen and improve by learning from the fall, but you can also move away from it after the lesson has been taught. I also saw that we cannot walk alone. Friendship and fellowship is needed not only to stand up but to move forward. We need to help each other and encourage each other to do better, to be better.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." I can truly say that the future belongs to Rwanda. It belongs to each and every beautiful soul I was acquainted with during our time there. We really can do anything we set our minds to. But this alone can happen once we believe and know that God is the centre and the reason behind everything.

He truly holds everything in His glorious hands. He has everything in control.
He always fulfils His purpose and His plan. Why should we fear the future when He gives us the power to move forward in His authority and in His plan? We are being pursued by His goodness and unfailing love every single day. God does sometimes call us to do impossible and scary things. But He wants us to be dependent upon Him, because He wants to see us step into the people that He created us to be and called us to be. What a wondrous thing, I can stand and sing, because when I fall to my knees, you’re the one who picks me up again.

Rwanda it was good, never looking down, because right there where we stood was holy ground.
