....each one of us quietly sitting, lost in his own thoughts. If all seems well and at peace, then why is there this groaning, uneasy feeling growing inside of me…?
As the old saying goes, “beauty is but only skin deep” and this is so true of a larger part of Africa. If you can force yourself to just look beyond the first couple of
layers,” then you will see people trapped by poverty, hunger, sickness, hopelessness and passivity. They are human beings just like you and me, but with absolutely no hope for the future.
This is the part we see and experience when we drive through Africa in our fancy air-
conditioned 4x4’s. But, let me tell you this, there is a much richer and deeper part to the people that we always somehow seem to miss!
Although there is not a grain of hope, they keep going on. Although they have no reason to, they keep on smiling.
Although all the odds are against them, they never complain. And although you are an alien in there country, they greet you with open arms, warm hearts and true hospitality.
This is a part, and I am sad to say it, which is greatly absent in the Western world. We have become hardened and unfriendly towards each other. Our rush for wealth has caused us to fall into a deep pit of selfish preservation. In the end our greediness for more money has made us just as poor as the people in Africa.& nbsp; Not in worldly terms and possessions, but in our relationship with our fellow man and God!!!
In the end a lot of us are in the same boat with them, but just on opposite sides of it. So the next time you visit an African continent don’t be so quick to judge, but take an extra our and get to know the people for who they really are and not what the media makes them to be.
In conclusion to my question, I want to say that Africa truly is a land of riches, but they still need a lot of prayer and I ask that you will continue to pray for them.
AFRICA: What a land of riches…!
Till next time
Marcel
