John 14: 12-14- ‘I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things then these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.’
Having expectations for something sets a standard for that something to happen.
If you set your standard and faith In God at an average level because you don’t trust Him to be God, then the experience of God you receive in your life is average. However when you expect to see God work in miraculous ways and you set your standard high, you find yourself seeing God in and the cause of every little blessing, which is a wonderful way to live. Coincidences are what my family likes to call small miracles of God, and our time in Peru could be explained in no other way than miraculous!
For southbound’s journey through the Amazon to Peru, and during our time in Peru, my father gave us Proverbs 10:22- ‘The blessing of the Lord brings wealth and he adds no trouble to it.’ However the blessing of this verse came with the responsibility of Ephesians 6:10-18, to arm ourselves in the Lord each and every day, to be able to receive the blessing of the wealth of God. We experienced this verse come to fruition every day, and sometimes multiple times a day!
These are just some of the expectations we witnessed God reveal to us in Peru:
-to see God work in and through us
-for people to come to know Christ for the first time
-to see growth and change in our team and others
-to see signs/wonders/miracles and healings happen
-to see God’s provision and hand of protection on us
-to develop a deeper relationship with God and each other in the team
The words of the song ‘God of this City’ by Chris Tomlin describe and reflect the journey God took us on in Peru, and are a great exclamation of truth in our lives.
‘You’re the God of this city,
You’re the King of these people,
You’re the Lord of this nation,
You are
You’re the light in this darkness,
You’re the hope to the hopeless,
You’re the peace to the restless,
You are
There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God
Greater things have yet to come
Greater things are still be done in this city
Greater things have yet to come
Greater things are still be done here...’
Greater things are yet to come and the Lord is not finished with working in the lives of GCEX Southbound 2011! We are expectant…
I want to leave you (the reader) with a challenge today- to expect greater things of God, and see Him work in and through your life each and every day! Why not set yourself some expectations right now and then live in the knowledge that God will work in them and you shall start to witness blessings and miracles in your life!
