Our contact challenged us during this time not to evangelize, we were serving at a public non-Christian kindergarten... and for the first time in my life I really understood the famous quote of St. Francis of Assisi, "Always preach the Gospel and when necessary use words." I finally grasped that our words should be the least of our testimony, our lives should testify of Jesus' love and grace for His people.
The family whose school we served at was such a blessing to the team and while we were living on a very limited budget we were living in abundance. They blessed us with snacks, meals, ice (which in the heat is much appreciated), water, lifts and so much love! I was reminded of the story in the Bible where God used ravens to bring food to Elijah. God used the least likely animal, that is usually known for scavenging, to provide for His beloved. God can use unbelievers to bless His children!
We had a big task to repaint the classrooms, chairs, jungle gym, walls and cafeteria of the school and God really amazed us at how much we could get done in a week. The atmosphere in which we worked was one of joy and fellowship and I strongly believe that through our joy the children, staff and parents got to experience Christ.
Through all the hard work we also had time to play and as a team we explored the beautiful island on the back of a scooter, we ended up driving through a thunderstorm and a road block, but through it all we had loads of FUN!
Our time came to an end and saying goodbye to the family in charge of the school felt like saying goodbye to new friends, we continue to pray for God to work in their hearts that they might come to know Him as their saviour!
Thailand was beautiful, the people, the scenery, the team work and most of all, the works of our Lord!
