Frankfort Echo Farm in the Free State was a jol ! Our team served there for two weeks and it was incredible to contribute to something way bigger than ourselves.
The farm is almost entirely off grid, which meant no signal (unless you walk a few kilo’s to a random bush at the top op the farm), no electricity, rats and bats as roommates and often lekker cold showers.
Oh yeah, now that’s what I’m talking about ! In between the dirty feet, callused hands and a little sunburn, I really experienced true freedom.
Our team is closer now than ever before and I sometimes feel like my heart is going to explode with love for them. We were intentional about seeking Jesus for ourselves and in each other. We shared our testimonies and I really saw the power of prayer.
We helped to work the fields, preparing the ground to plant spinach and onions to generate some income for the farm. Also, assisting in building mushroom growing tunnels.
The girls had a cool and challenging project too. We built a rock pathway and bonfire area. I learnt a lot and it was cool to take lead on a construction project without having the extremely skilled boys around to prevent things from going south. Making mistakes is a part of life and that is how you grow. The best part was setting in the last little rock and completing the pathway. It was so rewarding ! We sommer had a potjie there to celebrate aswell.
We got to know the guys that live on the farm a bit too, we worshipped and prayed together and heard some of their testimonies. It was super special. Jesus just showed me that everyone has a story to tell and no matter what you have done or how lost you have been, you will never be too far for God to come and save you. His grace is sufficient.
Frankfort jou lekker !
