Yes you heard correctly! I am doing my second year of Global Challenge! My last journey was North Bound 2010. This year I am in the Distant Islands team. I am so grateful for my team! They are so supportive and loving. I also have a new vision this year: To impact and serve the team to the best of my ability, and to apply the lessons I've learned in my previous Global Challenge journey and through last year.
This year started through a journey of faith. I was amazed at how God blessed me financially. I always had just enough money for the travel, food and other additional costs in Jeffreys Bay. About 1 week ago there was a cut off day for my finances. I had to have R 30 000, but only had R 22 500. As I realised that I did not have enough money, I immediately started to pray where God wanted to use me instead. About 4 hours of praying and not knowing where to go next the Global Challenge leadership let me know that there was a few payments into my account on that day that pushed me over the R 30 000 line. God's timing is perfect!
This
year's training is very different than my training 2 years ago. It is much more practical. We started with survivor in 'the bush' where we as team had to face many challenges during 3 days concerning food, shelter and the weather. This immediately broke the barriers between us and we were instantly bonded through the hard times. We received great teachings about evangelism and discipling. We were challenged to go out into the street to practise what we have learnt. Every time I went out to tell someone about Jesus it got easier. God really put divine appointments with people on my path. I want to challenge you to be available when you are shopping or just walking in the streets to look for opportunities just to be friendly with someone. Many times just a smile can make someone interested in the hope that lives within you.
Walking towards 'the bush' without knowing what lied ahead of us...
We also walked a distance of 16 km on the beach for 5 hours with our backpacks through the heat of the day to prepare us and give us an idea of what we can expect in this year.
I met a guy named Richard ( from Uganda) who is a herbal healer and psychic. He was a Christian and knows everything about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. He says that he can't go back to God, because he was chosen by his ancestral spirits to to do this job. He says that they will get angry if he becomes a Christian again and that his family will reject him if he stops with the witchcraft. He knows that he is in bondage but is afraid to get out of it and he doesn't know where he will find another job. Please pray with me for him.
