We went to JHB airport and said our last goodbyes to our family and in we went to the airplane. At this time I was so excited because it was my first time flying internationally. It was also Freddy and Angelo’s first time flying ever! The airplane food was so good, we ate so much and the coke was free! So we didn’t say no. Most of us were so excited to be actually heading out after 2 months of training. We are now sent out to work our way! We flew via Spain to Guatemala. Our first day of travelling was 32 hours long just because we travelled with the sun. We landed in Guatemala and got our bags and got a taxi and took us to Panajachel. We arrived in Panajachel about 10 at night.
Panajachel is beautiful! As you can see we live next to a big lake and across the lake you can see 3 volcano’s. The thing that I realized in Guatemala is that God is truly everywhere, He is the God of the world, not only of my home town or South Africa. Realizing that, I could get to know Jesus so much more and learn about Him from an awesome guy called Ben.
We have been here for about 2 weeks and have been working on a few projects, let’s call them project uno, dois and tres.
UNO
It’s a guy that lives in a mountain and he needed his whole part of his mountain cleared to plant peach trees. We are still busy helping him out and its going to take about ten days work to finish this. The awesome thing about this project is that we can help share the Gospel to him. This person has wrong ideas about our Faith and it’s our job just to love him and show him the love of God. To be continued…
Dois
Last year there was a big mudslide in Panajachel and it hit this women’s house. She needed a stronger wall because the previous wall broke down because of the
mudslide. We helped her out by building a much stronger & bigger wall. For 3 days we worked at her house and she blessed us with very nice food! We ate like kings.
Tres
This man is building a house and so we helped him pour concrete for the second story floor. This was such hard work, picking up buckets full of cement and pouring it out into the second story. While doing this, I found such joy because how much they appreciated it! They were so happy all of the time and smiling and just filling our spiritual fuel tanks!
It’s good doing all these projects for people, it brings them not only a physical wall or whatever, it’s about us showing them what it means to love one another and to care. It shows them how to give without wanting something in return. It helps them to grow in their faith and for others it starts building up questions of why we are doing this work for free. Then there’s an opportunity to share with them the Good news! I believe that God does things that we can’t see, for example -although we can’t see that the people are changed instantly, we have faith to believe in God and his mighty works to change the lives of those whom does not know Him yet!
The past few days with Pastor Ben was amazing, growing more and more spiritually. Pastor Ben, what a Godly man! Our first session we started with Ben and ended about 6 hours later, in that 6 hours I learned so much. He just has so much knowledge, and it’s his passion to share it.
I ask of you to keep on praying for me and my work Your way group.
