We humans have very little moments where we feel totally completed. Totally satisfied with where we are or what we are doing with our lives, Cuba is no different - here people dream about travelling and doing all the things their Communist country does not allow them to, therefore moments like these should be written about.
This is one of those moments. I am sitting on the back of what might seem like a cattle truck (Cuban taxi) on our way back from giving word at the Cuban seminary.
Tonight I sit in total content with a smile on my face thinking - I would do this forever! I was made to do this!
As I shared the word God gave for His children of the very oppressed Cuban churches, I could see their eyes light up - as if I was speaking directly to them! God's presence so tangible in our worship. To them Christianity is much more than just a facebook profile - it is life or death; friends or no friends; university or no studies... As there have been no Bibles entering Cuba for the last 3 years and even though Christianity is "allowed", even getting university acceptance if you're a pastor's child is very difficult. But for some of them, just like us, Christianity is just another worldly label we place ourselves under. Another mask we put on.
Tonight I saw Jesus taking some of those masks off. Relieving the pressure we so easily take up as our own. I saw the truth of God's word speak life into "dead" eyes. I saw lights going on where there use to be darkness. Man - at that moment I felt more alive than ever!! To see people freed - wow!
And so, as I looked around me on this crazy late night ride into the city of Santiago I knew that this is exactly where I need to be. That these people I call my friends have become my family and together we bring the Father's love wherever we go.
I love these moments.
