We arrived in Kenya at the olkoroi camp after a entire night of pushing 4x4 taxis through mud and over hils. The meaning of Olkoroi is Colobus monkey in the Kimasai Language. The camp got its name because it's located next to a river and the monkeys are commonly seen from the camp's viewpoint.
After about a week the leaders decided to do a split sothat the guys can go for a hike into the forest, and the ladys can have some bonding time aswell. We set of with our small bags with only one pair of clothes and our tents with a bit of food for dinner and breakfast.
We chose the perfect day to go for a hike. This was an understatement... We literally walked straightforward into a storm.
And the Masai guy we walked with was completley fine with it as if it was a normal part of his every day life, which it actually was.
The total hike was about 4km to 5km. It wasn't even 10 minutes and we were completely drenched walking up hills and the trail seemed like a river from al the rain.
We walked throug the neighbouring land through the forest greeting the village peolpe as we passed. On one point we could see on the horizon, mnt. Lengkai, that's what the masai called it, he says it's an active volcano and erupts every year somewhere in July to August.
Finally we arrived at the camp spot, with a amazing view over the valley with the river meandering through. The storm cleard up and we had about an hour of sunshine and as you could imagine we celebrated our victory and set up camp and had an awesome dinner.
So what I learnt through this hike was that no matter how bad that stom seemed to be and no matter how drenced we were, we arrived at our destination and we were dry because of that little bit of sun we had and the appreciation of sleeping in a dry bed :)
