Turkey! Haha no, not the flightless bird, the country of course. It has the most beautiful landscapes, delightful food and rich history.
We (as the 10 guys) spent some weeks on a olive farm in Urla, Turkey, where we would have early mornings milking the sheep, fetching the eggs from the chicken coop and preparing breakfast which would normally be bread that we baked ourselves and some kind of spread like Nutella or a variety of jams. Then we would start the day of by going to the "clay pit" where we would mix clay, sand and hay into water and mush it with our feet until the texture is just right :) Then we would pour out the clay into moulds, then let the clay settle for about 30 minutes and we would remove the mould and let the brick dry out for about 4 weeks. We made about 120 bricks per day, and when I say brick I actually mean like a small boulder, they were so big and heavy. I can't even imaging how the ancient Egyptian's felt building the pyramids :)
After Urla we met the rest of the team(the girls) at Izmir where we found out that our visas were expiring and we had to leave the country to gain a new one. So we split up into teams and hitchiked to Georgia(one of the neighbouring countries) and traveled for 6 days there and back laying of an average of 3000km. We slept at petrol stations in our tents and other random and relatively safe locations. We were pretty much roughing it. We hitchiked until 4a.m. the one moring and only went to sleep at 5 a.m. It was times like these I could really see God working in me and how he developed my character. And I know that we probably would have died on that challenge if we didn't have God on our side :)
We have an awesome God!
