Although the month has not yet passed, I would still like to share about the things that have happened so far. We spent most of the month in Brazil and more specifically, Rio de Janeiro.
Rio de Janeiro.
• We split in 3 groups and did a ´Luke 10´ journey. Read more Below
• Stayed and ministered to a student socialist movement of the Federal University of Brazil.
Before I start, let us look at the scripture. (Luke 10: 1-11)
1After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
8 “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you. 9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.’
This is exactly what we did. On the 14th of August our team split up in 3 groups of 3 and had no money. We did have our back packs, but other than our clothes and tent we were not allowed to use anything and only rely on God to provide everything we needed. We spend two days on the airport in Rio de Janeiro before the first door opened for us to leave. Someone blessed us with money to go to downtown Rio and on the bus we met a guy that knew someone that knew someone that studied at the university in Rio and said that there are students camping somewhere and that we should go there if we can't find a place to sleep. He ends up taking us there and what we found was a group of socialist striking for the teachers for higher salaries. What they did was , was to occupy a broken down theatre, pitch their tents there and stay there until the government settles' for the amount requested by the social movement.
We got there and they received us with open arms. We stayed with them for 8 days. Their union blessed us with 2 meals a day and we had a roof over our heads and we could not be more amazed at how God provides, and who He uses.
There were not one Christian in the whole group of about 40 (most were ´spiritual´, Hindu, atheist or a mixture of catholic and Rastafarian) so we had the opportunity to minister to them all and testify about how God is using them in His plan to provide for us. Some were amazed, some mocked us and some couldn't not care less about what we believed in but we had a opportunity to sow some seed and the rest is up to the Holy Spirit. Because we had about a week , we had the privilege of getting to know some of them and really have deep conversations about creation, salvation and life in general.
It was awesome. God is awesome.
We are now travelling to Ubatuba- Brazil ..
