A LIGHT TO THE NATIONS

How dark is the so-called dark continent of Africa?

Why was it in the first place called a dark continent? To be honest I’m not quite sure… But living in a traditional, local Zambian village opened my eyes and heart to a light that shines real bright!

On Wednesday morning we all embarked on a journey of a life time! Each of the five teams was sent out to live in a village for two days. The yellow team were welcomed into the home of Leonard, an FCE community worker in the Kampundu village. For two days we stayed with Leonard, his wife, Gremma, and their 4 children – shy and modest 7-year old Seeding, loud mouth, 5-year old Melody, attention loving , 3-year old Armstrong and 1 month old Baby Joy. The hospitality of these people put me to shame. They are so willing to give their best and in some cases their best is everything they have. During the months of January through to March the villages go through severe famine, thus we were prepared to go with as little as one meal per day, yet we were blessed with at least four delicious meals daily! The little children in the village are an absolute pleasure! They are an example of God’s shining love, with dirty faces and torn clothes they give you a smile to brighten your day and love you with 1 Corinthians 13 love. And all they expect in return is a game or song and dance.

Wednesday night we were welcomed to Bible study with villagers. Once again we were welcomed and treated as royalty, chairs were carried out and they performed a special “welcome” song for us. This was followed by praise and worship unlike any I’ve ever experienced. We were dancing around the fire, under a starry African sky praising our Lord. It was here that I realised Africa is anything but a “dark” continent. These people love the Lord with such passion and conviction! They are a shining light to the nations! Therefore I pray that God would bless Africa that He would shower them with His abundant love and kindness, that they would seek Him more and more everyday and that one day the whole world would look at Africa and see a continent of light!

African greetings,
Jana
