GREAT GOD!

During our tremendously blessed time in Phuket, we got the opportunity to visit a Tsunami Memorial. It was there that I for the very first time realised the magnitude of what happened. How many people were touched, how many lives were changed forever. How big is the Lord we serve that He has the power to allow a disaster like that to take place and yet have mercy on so many?

Today I spoke with the man working at the community centre where we are currently serving. When the second wave hit, he realised that the roof he was standing on, was going to give in. He had to dive. The wave crashed him against a wall, he gave up, made peace with dying and then for the first time in His life called out to God for help – as an after thought... As the surge of the water calmed down for a second he came up for air, the only thing left around his neck is the cross he wore. All his Buddhist things were gone. Today the cross is still the only thing around his neck. How great is our God that He could literally tear away everything that’s not for Him? How great is our God that in the midst of something as huge as the tsunami, He reaches out to those calling upon His name?

How great is our God that He has an issue with you and me? He knows us by name! He loves us with all His heart! He knows how many hairs there are on my head, I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast today... Our God is so big and so awesome and so powerful, yet He has time to listen to my every prayer. He has speaks to me every day. For the past two days we’ve been pulling out grass form a supposed flower bed – quite the frustration! But when the heat is unbearable and I’m almost in tears, He sends a cool breeze, just to remind me that He loves me.  How great is our God that He’ll have me on my knees, pulling out grass just so that He can remind me of how much He loves me?

How great is our God? Can we really comprehend? Can we fathom how big and strong and mighty and powerful and awesome and loving and kind and good and merciful He is?  I am at a loss for words – something that does not happen very often.
