Garlic vs. Onions

Lindi and I where assigned to take care of Gabriel, Ariel, and Abby for the last week.  This was a big challenge for me. I was quite scared and on my tippy toes in the beginning, but I knew that it’s where God wanted me to be.

We were up at six o’clock the first day just before the kids so we could watch DVD’s with them so they don’t wake their parents.

Making breakfast, washing dishes, cleaning the flat and washing the clothes were nothing compared to Gabriel’s explanations when he was naughty, Ariel’s little dances and Abby’s smiles with her face all scorched up.

I did not get a lot of time for myself, but God revealed a lot to me about who I should be. Some of the things God revealed to me are that:

  1. I’ m more capable of doing things when I am in the will of God.
  2. Hugs and Kisses are enough to keep you going.
  3. Taking care of kids is much easier when your main goal is to love unconditionally.
  4. Discipline is needed to know your boundaries.

On May the 20th I asked God to reveal to me 3 things that He wanted me to see, that day He gave me 4 things.

  1. Kids need to be taught from scratch, we can not assume that everyone should know everything. For example if you are taught to do a sum in Grade 12 your teacher assumes that you were taught the basics in Grade 8 and who’s responsibility would it be to teach you the fundamentals in life? Your guardians if they be your parents, teacher or grandparents. They need to help you understand the basics. That’s were I realized how important my influence is on those younger than me.
  2. The second thing God revealed to me was when Gabriel jumped off the couch. It was as if a new door opened for him, something He thought was impossible became possible just because he took a leap of faith knowing that if he falls we’ll be there to catch him. Isn’t that what God aspects of us? Should we be willing to take a leap of faith into His arms?
  3. The third thing was when Gabriel was coloring and Lindi told him to stay inside the lines. As I watched him I realized how important boundaries are. The picture looks so much better if you stay inside the lines. Why do we always want to go outside our boundaries if when staying inside of them our own picture looks so much better?
  4. The fourth thing I realized is actually more important than all the others. We should stop focusing on the people that need help in the far distance and start helping those close to us.

Why the title Garlic vs. Onions - because both can’t be eaten as you buy them, but as soon as you use them for the right reasons you can’t live without them because they just spice up your life.

Ps. my inspiration for this blog came when I walked 3km for onions and bought garlic instead.
