A few thougths I wrote down last year after Eugene Terre'blanches murder. I played with the idea in my mind: what if civil war broke out in SA? Where would I stand? What do I do if I have to protect myself and my family?
My country is not a country. My country has a name, a president, a capital city, it’s called a country, but it is not a country.
A country is place which contains one nation of people with a common goal. When the rest of the world stands against you, attacks you, then you as a country stand together. Look out for each other.
But we don’t build anything. Sure we build buildings and roads. But we don’t build people. We break them down. We kill them, we destroy them and we ignore them.
Of course everybody is fooling themselves; they think we are a nation. They even tell the world we are while hiding the deep rifts between communities, races and more. Sooner or later the bad will come out, the lid will burst, tempers will flare and the world will see us for who we really are.
I just realised most of this very recently.
I enjoy living in this beautiful country of ours. I enjoy hanging out with my people, the good food, the relatively high quality life style. The beach, the mountains and sport.
But recently, very recently it all changed. And it got me thinking, what if? What if everything came tumbling down in a massive disintegration of life? What if the day comes that I need to pick up the rifle in my grandfathers safe and point it at somebody? What if it is somebody from my own country?

I also thought of that many times and came to the conclusion that that is why God is establishing groups of people who will be able to stand strong in times of storm. People who will not choose side except God's side, people who will use other weapons in the fight, people who will be able to let a light shine for others who lost the way, lost all hope and lost their identity in Christ as well. We will fight but I'm glad I handed in my 7 pieces of armoury. We'll have to depend on Someone else, not on weapons. He promised to fight the battle for us. Standing in the gap will mean some of us will fall. The seed will die but will bring forth a great harvest. It may soun like a cliché - but I believe in it with my whole heart. May God prevent us from a disaster like that.
