On day 6 we set off, still heading for Acapulco. For breakfast we had mango's we picked up in the garden and our hosts gave us a big bottle of water. Day 6 was amazing. We were all pondering on God and provision. How far do you ask, if it's in God's plan why do even ask? Won't He provide? Well, on day 6 He answered us! We were starving and a random lady walked across the street and handed us some local food. WOW! We were in the middle of who knows where sitting opposite a prison, again 360km from Acapulco (When we stared traveling 3hours earlier we were also 360km from Acapulco) and on the verge of giving in when our lift arrived. Without us hiking a car stopped and asked "Acapulco?" they took us all the way. WOW! Arriving in Acapulco we prayed to thank God for the ride and ask Him to show us what next. Before saying "Amen" a bike pulled up next to us. Carlos asked if we were okay and when hearing what we were doing offered us a place to stay and meal for the night. Again WOW!
We ended up spending the rest of our time with Carlos, his lady, Jasmine and her family. They live in the industrial area of Acapulco, Carlos and Jasmine in a one room flat and her family around the corner. We bathed India style, with a bucket and cold water and slept on the roof under the stars. Carlos was our only translator and we got to share with him a lot. Jasmine said that she wants to open the door of her heart to God - AMAZING! They spoiled us rotten, taking us to visit all the beautiful beaches and other tourist attractions, feeding us daily and offering us the best they had.
One day Carlos decided we needed another adventure and sent us off to explore on our own. We caught a ride to a surfers' beach, thinking we'll spend some time there before heading to see the crazy people dive down a 36m cliff in to the ocean. Our drivers took us to their little guest house on the beach and promised to pick us up in an hour. This was quite a distance from where we originally wanted to be, we weren't sure exactly where we were or why. The caretaker at the house provided us with hang mats, coconuts and even towels when we enjoyed a swim in the pool. Three hours later our drivers still hasn't returned and we stared to get worried. Staying true to our motto we decided to keep going and tried to catch another ride. When this didn't succeed the caretaker offered us a room in the house and set off to buy us some food while we tried to phone Carlos to explain the situation. It was an amazing and weird situation. We were stuck in a guest house on the beach! Anyone's dream...
On our last day in Acapulco we decided to spend our first and only money. We bought an enormous amount of food and blessed the family with an almost traditional South African meal. The next day we said sad good byes and set off for Mexico City to meet the rest of the team. Again God provided like only He can. We got a ride to the first town and then sat around for a while. Again just before we got seriously negative and while we weren't hiking a guy stopped and offered us a lift to Mexico City. WOW!
Luke 10 was a journey of a lifetime! We learnt that God is The Provider. Every significant ride or conversation happened when we weren't asking for it. God blew our minds! We're also sure that He sent us exactly where He wanted us to be and that our meetings weren't coincidental but divine. We'll continue to pray for all those who blessed us during this time and we trust that God will continue to reveal Himself to them daily.
In the end all praise goes to God who's still a bigger and better God than we could ever dare to imagine. It was a privilege to go on this journey and together as a team discover more of His glory!
Until next time, be blessed and have a slice of custard crumble cake! :)
