During the last days in Peru, we were in a town named Ferrenafe. Because I was very sick, I had to separate from the group. Part of us went back to Ferrenafe, while the rest of the group stayed in the mountains a few days more. This time was very hard for me. I really wanted to stay with the group. It was very difficult to live in the realization that I did not have the strength to hike through the mountains and because of this, many lies started coming into my mind. During the second day there, I spoke with my friend Tom from back home in Brasil via Skype. He began to tell me about things that were happening back home. He told me how my father had started coming to English lessons that my church was offering. My father never had interest in attending either English lessons, much less church. He was an unbeliever. I did not understand why my father would be attending English lessons. This was very different. Tom told me that my father had called and asked if he could attend the English lessons. I asked Tom why my father was even interested in taking lessons and Tom told me, “the guys stimulated your father to study English.” I did not understand who he was talking about so I said “what guys?” He told me, “One is American and the other person is a boy with blonde hair. Your father wants to learn some words to speak to you and this American girl and this blonde guy. He wants to understand when these people are talking to him.” He then continued by saying that after my father had been coming to English lessons for two weeks, he shared with my father a passage from Romans 8. It was from this passage that they took a verse in order to study it in English. He told me that my father really liked the passage and seemed to really connect with it. It was then that Tom asked my father if he would like to give his life to the Lord and my father said, “Yes!”
When I heard this, it was a big surprise for me. For years my father has never wanted to become a Christian. When I would share with him about what I believed, he never wanted to listen. I used to pray for him and ask God to work in his heart. I told God to do in Him what He desired. When Tom told me that my father had become a believer, I realized why two weeks prior he had sounded so different on the phone. I heard in His voice that he was different, but I didn’t know why. Now I know,God is so good!
When I got off phone with Tom, I went up to the roof of the house that I was staying in and I shouted at the top of my lungs. I shouted with all my might and started to praise and worship God like I never had before. For years I had been praying for my family and now my father has come to know the Lord! Through this, God showed me, that when He calls us to do things and we are faithful that He works in the hearts of our families. God chose us to serve Him. He reminded me of the verse Joshua 24:15 “…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
God does more than can I imagine!! Thank you Lord!
Lembrou-me do verso Josué 24:15 "... eu e minha casa serviremos ao Senhor".
Deus faz mais do que posso
imaginar! Obrigado
