Beauty in simplicity

It's almost unbelievable to think that a month could pass so quickly, and what an amazing experience it has been! From blikskud in PE to traveling with a luxurious bus to Transkei, we realised the beauty in Transkei realy lies in its simplicity. The simple life of the Transkei brought us back to earth and taught us what true humility is all about.

In Coffeybay we had the privilege of serving the community from dawn to dusk by painting their classrooms and bathrooms as well as putting in a door and repairing a roof. Our multi coloured tents stood out between the little turquoise huts and the grass green hills although our tents blended perfectly into the Xhosas warm and colourful culture. After the completion of all our tasks we ventured into the hills of coffibay, hiking towards hole in the wall, having fellowship and sharing amazing views with our fellow challengers. Our Daddy is a true artist!

After a week in Coffeybay we travelled like locals to a more rural area in Transkei, Canzibe, where poverty lurks behind every door. We did surveys for the local missionary where we, with the help of a translator, got to know the locals and what life in Canzibe is really like. We learnt this valuable lesson: poverty can sometimes be a blessing especially when it teaches you the beauty of simplicity.

After two weeks of hard work the real fun started on Saturday morning around 7:00. A challenge to get to Jeffreys bay. We were left in Mtata with a budget that seemes impossible work with but with God all things are possible. We had to go buy Allie, our chicken, learn to weave, dress and eat ( chicken heads and feet) like the warm hearted xhosa people do. We also had the privilege of spreading the gospel in the city center and caching a pig in the local community, qunu. After joining with some of the other teams we got blessed with enough food and transport. With a doef doef we headed back towards jefferys in our african party on weels, which was a miracle and a blessing in itself. When we arrived in Jeffereys we discovered that Allie was in fact a hen after she had an egg to lay (and eat) about the trip. We crashed in our favourite school in the mall for the night (which was about two hours). With the shuffling of chickens we woke up to a beautiful day to go to church smelling like uncooked bacon and eggs.

Our whole trip can be summirised in Phillipians 4:4... "Always be joyful in the Lord. I say it again-rejoice!"
In the times that it seems as if you have nothing you will discover that you have more enough because we have God, our loving Father.
