Jesus, our Rock for 2012

Isaiah 44:8
“Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim my purposes for you long ago? You are my witnesses, is there any other God? No! There is no other Rock – not one.”

I got this beautiful verse while watching the sunrise of the first day of 2012 in Kleinmond, my hearts point. My mom and I sat on a rock right next to the ocean, on a spot that would seem scary if you see how big the waves are that crash against the rocks. But there is a rocky ridge about 20m into the ocean that breaks all the waves, and this causes the spot where we sit to be completely safe, and it almost feels like you’re sitting next to a dam. And wile sitting there in awe of the gigantic waves crashing against the rocks and bursting into beautiful white splashes, a thought came to mind. God is like this rock. He doesn’t always stop the waves that are heading in our direction deep in the ocean where we can’t see it. Sometimes He let’s the problems of life roll closer, and just before it hits us off the rocks, God breaks the waves at just the right time, and we can calmly behold His glory as we trust in Him to keep us safe.

Psalm 62:5-8
“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him. He alone is my rock and salvation, my fortress that will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in Him at all times. Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge.

Trust in God. Trust that He will keep you safe, and calm the storms inside your heart and trust that He would rather stop the sun in the sky than fail you. Jesus will be our rock and our foundation for this year and we will put our trust in Him alone. On the moment there is still a little wave of financial crises rolling closer… but my God, the Rock, is stronger!

Risk it to walk closer to the great waves of life. Place yourself where you can behold God’s glory and trust Him to be the rock where you find your refuge.
