A heart of flesh, a heart like Jesus

Sometimes we have a hardened heart against certain groups of people, for some rich people it will be against the poor and homeless; even some races have hardened hearts toward each other. This all causes conflict, hate, judgement, etc.  That makes it difficult to serve and love people like Jesus loves them. I fully understand why people are like that. It is a hardening of our hearts over a long period of time, a sense of being better another group of people, being above them.  There are many varying causes to this:  history, wrong belief systems, cultural differences.  To list only a few.  I struggle with this a lot and the whole concept hit home again in Malaysia. It was in one of those moments that I prayed for God to soften my heart and to allow me to love these people like He loves them.  In that moment I felt a suddenly change toward these people, my heart broke for them and I had this immense love and compassion for them, I just wanted to serve them and get to know their stories, but I also learned you have to step into what you prayed, because if God gives you this opportunity and you do nothing about it, what was the use.  Eventually your heart will start to harden again.

We need a heart of flesh in this world, a heart like Jesus’ heart. Open, loving and compassionate, even towards the people you hate/ dislike and/ or feel that you are better than. Because at the end we all are equal and Jesus loves us all equally and wants every single one to be saved.
