Krasnoyarsk is a Russian city located above the country of Mongolia and has a population in the region of one million citizens. Walking into the local grocery store you could immediately identify one of the main strongholds which govern the local community, right next to the normal everyday milk and bread. Poverty, absent parents but primarily alcoholism are causes of destruction in this country and the evidence is scattered everywhere. Stepping outside, the beauty of the three month Siberian summer took our breath away.
One evening that stood out for us was how God can suddenly setup a divine appointment without you even realizing it. Four of us went to a restaurant for supper where some Russian men sat drinking at the table next to ours. One of them strolled over to our table and without invitation plopped down in the empty chair. He heard us speaking English and was interested in who we where and where we came from. We were bombarded by questions and became slightly agitated by his intrusiveness.
Then suddenly…
Our conversation shifted to questions about our faith and a platform was set to share the good news with this confused young man. The conversation deepened and his hunger for truth was very evident in his endless array of questions. His friends continuously coaxed him into quitting the conversation and to continue drinking with them – but he brushed them off saying that this was more important and persisted in asking endless questions about Jesus and the Bible.
He was visibly stuck by the weight of the message and took one of our Russian friends contact details
Proverbs says that a man can plan his route but the Lord directs his step. Are we sensitive for the “suddenly” of God? Moses was herding sheep when suddenly God appeared in a burning bush. Joseph was sitting in jail when suddenly God made him second in command of Egypt, Stephen was tending to church business when suddenly he had to testify to those who was about to stone him. But most of all after the book of Malachi 300 years of silence and in the darkest time with no words from God….suddenly the light of the world becomes human flesh.
Never believe that today is ordinary, maybe today God will do something suddenly in or through your life. Are you willing and ready?
