Even though our time in Hong Kong was very short, it was very powerful and impacting. Like we would say in Afrikaans "dit was kort maar kragtig." We had the great privilege to stay with Albie's aunt and uncle, who are South Africans that moved to Hong Kong about 9 years ago. They were such a big blessing to us. They impacted every one of us so much, through their unconditional love and their way of giving and sacrificing so much of themselves and their time to us, without expecting anything in return. They opened up their home to us and made us feel part of their family, even though they never met us before and didn't really know us. We were completely undeserving of their love and blessings. We learned so much from them, just through the way that they live and do things.
When we first arrived in Hong Kong we didn't have set up ministry points. We only had a few contacts, but when we e-mailed them, all of them didn't really get back to us. We spent a lot of time just having fellowship with each other as a team and with Wim and Juanita. It was wonderful to just enjoy good conversations and have fun together.
One day we split up into smaller teams of three people in a group, and went out to go and do a spiritual treasure hunt. This might sound very strange, but all that it basically is, is when you go out and pray for God to lead you through His Holy Spirit to go and meet people through divine appointments and to allow God to speak to them through you and to share the Gospel with them. That evening we all shared our different experiences with each other around the dinner table and we could just see how God worked. It was amazing!
Some of us got to share the Gospel with some one who has never heard of Jesus before. One of the teams got to share with Jehova witnesses and had the opportunity to challenge them about what they believe through love, so that God might raise questions in their minds and through His grace bring truth. We all had the opportunity to share with a stranger and to let God's love flow and work through us, to impact someone else's life. What a privilege and blessing.
We were invited to a prayer meeting of one of the well known Christian organisations who are busy working in various parts of the world. We shared with them about what our organisation is all about, told them a little bit about our hearts and shared a few testimonies. They told us more about their organisation and what they are busy with in the world, in the pacific and especially in Hong Kong. They spoke about doing ministry with prostitutes, helping and reaching out to the poor and teaching and helping people from other religions and cultures to not only learn about the Bible, but to also learn English and Cantonese. We also heard some great testimonies that they shared with us and they told us about so many great ministry opportunities that we could get involved in for the future. This was very exciting.
We also went looking for another organisation who helps to deliver drug addicts through prayer and who also works with the poor in Hong Kong. At first it was quite a mission to find them, but God willingly we found them.
Even though we did not have many set up ministry points in Hong Kong, we had the opportunity to minister to one another and to our hosts.
We had time to rest and get recharged and the privilege of being able to communicate with friends and family back home.
We even got to skype with the North Bound team. =) We made great connections and built relationships for future teams to come and do ministry in Hong Kong. All in all I would say it was a very fruitful and productive week for us. Let the pioneering continue through the rest of the pacific.
Our last evening we had a very special dinner party for Kim's 22nd birthday and as a farewell party, with Wim, Juanita and Family.
We are now off to Taiwan where we will do our Luke 10 Journey. Please pray with us for that we might know God's voice and do His will.
All our love
Distant Islands Team
