We started Cayman with an easy airport entrance and being picked up by miss Erna, our host for the time there. And we were so blessed, we stayed in miss Erna's second house across from her house, this meant that we had a big house to stay in and what is more it had warm water!! It was also stocked with food, but warm water so good (I hoped that by this time I would be used to cold showers, but no warm water still makes me happy). We were really spoiled while we were there. The 10 days in Cayman was in general quite relaxed and since it is the island of turtles it should not be surprising :-P
Ministry
On the Sunday, our first full day there, we visited 2 churches while 4 of the team went to visit the prison. The Wednesday evening we did a full service at a church, where I got to do sound and that was fun to be behind the soundboard again. We also went to visit and old age home on the Thursday 18 July, where I met and old man who has met Nelson Mandela in South Africa while the man was in the marines a long time ago, and they went to see Nelson Mandela boxing and training. It was so cool as it fell on Nelson Mandela's 95th birthday and that I could tell the old man this, it made him happy to hear. The Sunday we got to preach in 2 churches and it was also good. While we were there the team also got to spend some good time with miss Erna and we started on some Beth Moore bible studies, the girls did the Ester bible study, while the 3 boys started on the Daniel study. We enjoyed the studies very much since it is very well done, even if it is aimed at woman the 3 of us hung onto her words and had to stop a few times just to take in.
Not Ministry
We had some fun while we were there, we went to some of the beautiful beaches that is there. The 3 guys did a day trip to Georgetown where we walked around, had turtle burgers (they grow turtles to eat in Cayman) and had some ice cream. The next day we were taken to Turtle Bay, were they grow turtles and we took lots of pictures and had the opportunity to pick up some turtles and to snorkel in a big pool with fish and the turtles that is to be released into the ocean, the morning was definitely the highlight of our off time there, I even spend a long time in the water till I had grandpa toes (Go the the link for a funny clip of me in the turtle pool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DibdIVml5Cc). That afternoon we went exploring a bit more and had some time to just hang out. We also got a tour of the Island after church on the Sunday. As a team we had some good times and time together and as stated above we spent a lot of time in Beth Moore studies. We also had an evening dinner with miss Edna where we got Turkey and good food, I ended up at the kiddies table (4 of us did not fit on the main table), and we had so much fun and the funniest moments at that table. The highlight was that we had the opportunity at the end to sit in a chair and share what we would like to ask the Father for, it was a really good evening. We got to the airport nice and early on the day we were leaving for Cuba, only for me to find out that there is no foreign exchange at the airport and I had to make a run for a bank outside the airport. As I was looking for a lift to the bank I met the first South African on the Island that was not in jail, he stopped and as I introduced myself he said I must be from Boksburg with an accent like that, but he was cool and gave me a lift to the bank from the airport and back. Getting a lift in the Cayman was one the interesting things of the Island, it was really easy in general and most people take you to where you want to be, not just to where they are on their way to.
Me
My time was good, I had some breakthroughs and are more and more journeying on some of getting rid of my pride. Had some revelation that I became indifferent due to a few things and that the indifference was just a form of rebellion and that I have applied a passive rebellion all my life and used silence as a weapon so much. So it is back to dying to self and submitting more and more under the Holy Spirit and letting my life be renewed. Also that a lot of my frustrations was due to me not trusting God in those areas. All in all it was good.
