The big 30

So I turned 30 in Peru on a bus on the way to Lima with wifi. Then later they day to peeps who where suppose to take me away so they can do my surprise party got distracted and when we got back to church there were search parties out looking for us while the rest of the team was eating so long as to not be late for the church service. The BIG 30 (that is before you hit the big 40 and then the big 50 ect) and since everyone these days have the list of to do's before they turn 30 I thought I will share a few bucket list moments I had this year. It started last year with the big must do before you turn 30 and that is to quit a promising career with no plan for the future and bum out, or that is how it might have looked. It was all part of God's plan and now I have something to write about...

boatThings I did before I turned 30 this year

  • Flew overseas for the first time in my life. (now that would have been a sad thing to miss before 30)

  • Having some of our team get lost in the Amazon jungle on the 1 day we went hiking in it to visit some remote village. (and for some reason they never took us into it again, wonder why??)

  • I went on a 6 day boat trip on the Amazon, sleeping in a hammock and seeing pink dolphins (they were really ugly for the record)

  • I had my first time in a real subway train, Venezuela

  • FJStreetCGoing into the ocean more than 5 times this year from places like Santa Martha, Barbados, Cayman Islands and Cuba

  • Watching Cool Runnnigs in Jamaica.

  • Playing street cricket in Kinston, Jamaica. Real Caribbean style and getting an LWB with my 5th ball bowled, I did not know it was possible.

  • Going to Dunn's river falls in Jamaica, it was beautiful.

  • Going to Cayman Island, but not on business trip to the asset managers there as I thought my first trip there would be.

  • FGG trike2Swimming with a sea turtles in Cayman, and then eating a sea turtle burger.

  • Climbing the Gran Pedra in Cuba

  • Living in a airport for 2.5 days in Mexico and taking shower in handicap stall.

  • Triking – hurling down a mountain on a sawed of and welded bike at 80km/h.

  • Have a one year orphaned and one year unemployed anniversary.

  • Hitch-hiked +/- 900km across 2 countries in 28 hours with 4 other peeps and a whole heap of baggage.

  • Going on a boat on the Panama Canal and feeding some monkeys.

  • FP MonkWalking in the Andes mountains in Ecuador and Peru

  • Visited 19 countries on my first time out of South Africa's borders (not a bad start).

The list I did not make:

  • Changing a baby's nappy, and I am so glad I have not had the chance and I am hoping that it would be something that I will not have to do for the next few years.
