What a month - May

What a month

I will most probably always remember May 2012 as the month of massive growth; not only in me, but in the whole Hidden World Expedition team. We were on the move and we visited three ministry points in three different countries this month.  Each of these ministry points were unique and each  has their own amazing stories and testimonies, but for the sake of keeping this newsletter “reader friendly”, I will only share a broad overview of where we were, what we did and what God did.   The previous newsletter ended off with us traveling to Iquitos Amazonas- Peru.  From there on we traveled to Colombia and then to Panama where we will stay until the 2nd of June. (See Map 1)

Peru-Iquitos
24/04- 03/05

Iquitos is the gateway to the Amazon (from the Peru side) and this is also where a lot of foreigners go to experience the jungle and to go on a “spiritual journey” and use drugs.  This is an amazing location to evangelise because most of the people understood English and most were open for any spiritual experience, which make the door open for the Holy Spirit.    When we got to Iquitos, we immediately joined with a group of radical youths from the local church.  With them we did street ministry.  This involved street evangelism to strangers, dramas and street dances and preaching in the streets, schools and the University of Iquitos.    During our stay, we also distributed food to the locals who were affected by the flood.

Colombia
04/05- 17/05

Our 2nd ministry point was at a mission station in the town Fusagasuga.  This station opened again in January for the first time in 18 years because it was just too dangerous for Christians, and especially missionaries to be in this part of the country in previous years because of guerrilla warfare and drug trade that took place in these regions.  This mission station focuses on training missionaries in cross- cultural evangelism.

They would typically send these missionaries out into the jungles of Colombia to hidden tribes with the purpose of living with the tribes, learning the tribal language and ultimately translate the Word for them in their own language.  As you can imagine, this does not happen overnight.& nbsp; These missionaries sacrifice their whole live to live with these tribes and it can take anything from 5 to 35 years to translate the Bible to a single tribe.    Our mission was to help them put up a fence around the premises and to help out with any physical work that needed to be done in and around the base.  At night we would listen to stories and teachings about working with tribes and it encouraged us as a team tremendously to listen to these missionaries and to the things that God has done in their lives.

Panama
17/05- 02/06
We had 2 ministry points in Panama.  The one was at a local church in Gamboa (Small town next to the Panama channel) and the other was in Chilibre at the YWAM (Youth with a Mission) base. We were extremely busy with a variety of things such as:

Prison ministry- We preached and testified at a prison in Panama.

Tribal ministry- We travelled to an indigenous Indian village (Embera tribe) and help them with physical work and also preached and prayed to them.

Bible distribution- Distributing Bibles to surrounding villages in Panama.

Street Ministry- Evangelising to people on the street.
