Seeing God's World: Growing closer to Him!

Hello! So my name is Helen, I'm 21,  from Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand and I am super excited about joining global challenge for 2011.

For the past three years I have been studying land planning and geography at the University of Otago and at the moment am in the midst of studying for final exams. While studying here I came to know God and have been challenged to live my life for Him. It has been a time of growing my relationship with Him and understanding what it means to truly be a follower of Jesus.

But why leave little old New Zealand for the year? I have always been keen to do what New Zealanders call an OE, overseas experience. But realised I didn't just want to see the sights, I want to meet people, help them where I can and share what God has done in my life. Jesus went to the cross for us, so we should live for him, to be his hands and feet for those that need him. This is where GCEX comes in.

I am looking forward to opportunities to see other cultures and especially to serve people  in need, "for even the son of man  did not come to be served, but to serve," (Mark 10:45) and for God to reveal more of Himself as we seek him in all that we do. My expectations are in a huge way unknown, so often I limit what I think God can do, but for next year I am choosing to stand on the promise that "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." (Mark 10:27)

Hopefully my technological skills (often slightly lacking) will allow you to follow me as I prepare and then head away. This is a huge step of faith for me and I am glad I can share in this experience with those I already know and all those I will meet on the way. Excited for what is to come!
Helen

Hi, Helen
We as a family from South Africa visited your hometown 2 years ago, on an family holiday 2008. What a beautiful town and lovely homely people. My son, Wynand did the Global Challenge 2010, South Bound. What a live changing year it was. I pray Gods blessings over your plans, finances and preparation before you go. May God work wonders through you next year. Halleluja!
