Lime and blue meet on day 1 on a train from Pretoria to Gabarone, as though it was written in the stars...
On the 1st Intercape bus we got one of the last two showers in three days. The other one was at the Zambia borderpost. In Gabarone we were ever so slightly worried, but a very brave man was willing to load 10 people + backpacks onto his "bakkie" in the race to catch the last bus to Zimbabwe. That's how 10 people ended up on 3 seats and 7 buckets, with "Biertoon" on the amazing chips and cooldrink bus. Not all who asks shall receive, Liza is still waiting for her packet of chips.
In Zimbabwe Kobus got us a bargain, with the help of an "eccentric" lady. We realised the magic and mystery of Africa - anywhere in Zimbabwe is only three hours from the Victoria falls. On a more serious note, Zimbabwe is an incredibly beautiful country, almost beautiful enough to pull the wool over your eyes. It's very weird when people ask you to reveal the situation in their own country.
Back to the adventure: At the Zambia borderpost the friendly policemen organised two taxi's for us to Livingstone. That night we slept on two busses - 2-3 seats each! Marcel tried to buy "cooks" (biscuits) and Tobi's knees had heartburn after so much sitting. Along the way we came across a horrific bus accident. Finally we reached Luanshya where we were picked up by the friendly folks of Masaiti. That last evening we slept at base camp and it was as though we had conquered Everest. No shower has ever been more appreciated or enjoyed! Out of five teams we came 4th and 5th respectively, but out of 10 our adventure rates a million. God was, is and always will be great!
