“Rain means blessing,”
strong> said Clara Miles, Global Challenge (GC) Staff member.
We are standing in the pouring rain, looking over the Red Hill community that was destroyed by fire less than two days ago.
The rain is indeed an answer to prayer as it extinguishes the remaining fires and causes the dust and dry ash to settle.
The unique smell of burning wood extinguished by water hangs in the air.
It’s been an exciting day. The whole CPx (Church Planting eXperience) group from All Nations arrived in the morning to come and aid the community.
66 People moving into a community makes a difference.
Anna-Marie, International Director of GC, met with the community and its leaders to determine a strategy and plan of action.
It was decided that each affected family would receive a few team members to assist them in the clean up and reconstruction of their houses.
As they talked the Cape Town City council arrived, handing out so called starter kits: a few sheets of corrugated iron, nails, a sheet of plastic and a few wooden beams to assist the community in rebuilding their homes.
Through the rest of the day the teams worked in the ongoing rain, cleaning up plots so the new
houses can be built.
It was decided that temporary houses would be built with the starter kits until Global Challenge and All Nations can supply more permanent structures. A corrugated iron house costs approximately R6000.00 and can be assembled relatively easy.
We believe the rain from God was a blessing of better things to come and would like to see the community back on its feet again.
