Red Hill, Cape Peninsula
12 February 2008 - There was only one thing that kept the people back from building today: wind.
And the wind was extremely unhelpful.
Each volunteer was covered in a thin layer of black dust by the end of the day, and most were trying to get sand out of their, ears, eyes and mouths. Still the volunteers and the locals kept pushing on, knowing that time and the elements was against them. The sooner a shack is put up, the sooner people can get out of the wind into their own places.
And of course it’s motivating to see the unity between the locals and volunteers. Everywhere people is helping out as much as they possibly can.
The highlight must have been when the truck arrived.
The truck with extra wooden beams and corrugated iron sheets for the new shacks. These were not government funded but came out of the pockets of private donors. All who are wishing to restore the community. Thank you for everybody who has contributed so far.
Despite the progress on the Red Hill site we picked up our media initiative, sending out a press report to all the local news media.
Please assist us in this project by praying and funding. We also would like to encourage you to raise awareness of this project.
