Morocco bursts with colour, flavour, sounds, people and culture. It catches you by surprise if you don’t prepare yourself, but is this a case of being careful not to judge a book by its covers? With statistics such as a 99% Muslim population and having laws prohibiting evangelising, makes one wonder what is going on in the inside of this nation behind all the colourful representation of what it has to offer. So as a team we ask ourselves what can we do, and the answer is pray, pray, pray.
The power that lies within prayer, revealed itself to me in Morocco in more than one way. The cities we journeyed through in prayer was Marrakech, Fes, Tangier and Chefchaouen. We practised the power of prayer in various ways such as prayer walking, individual praying, intentional praying when situations presented itself and also structured prayer gatherings of 4 hours per day for a week. Topics, reasons or needs to pray from ranged far and wide and it was within this that I discovered that by even being thousands of kilometres from home, I can still make an impact in people’s lives, by simply praying for them.
My granny’s voice echoed in my head, where she would always tell me that she is praying for me. She must also know how powerful prayer really is, even if you can’t be there physically or emotionally for someone. But by praying to God and asking Him to restore hope, bring healing, provide safety, give comfort or simply making someone smile again, every person has the power to make a difference.
From our training week and at every ministry point we have been on our journey, the topic of Prayer has always carried great weight and should receive priority in our daily lives. Prayer is the space created for you can God to connect intimately and personally to build and ensure a strong bond and relationship. God is not only our Father, but our friend, and you can go to Him for anything.
For Morocco we left as a team knowing that there is a hunger to know God within some of the people. There is a pure interest to experience God’s love. So we can only pray that the walls built to keep God’s Word from entering the hearts of Moroccans are broken down so that the seeds that are sowed can start to grow.
