Closer than ever
Closer than ever: reflections after a week of survivor in Colombia
After a week in the wilderness
During which our day plan consisted of looking for isolation to build a shelter (suspending our Hammocks from trees that have grown tall enough)
Or the majority of our day light hours were spend searching for " agua caliente" ( hot water)
to make a third or forth cup of Colombian coffee,
Strangers who helped us became friends,
I became a Spanish speaking African
Mango's were part of our staple diet
Beaches are roads,
Rivers are to be crossed ( while holding our backpack with our few worldly electronics on your head, to "ensure" a dry passage)
Sweat is weakness leaving the body
If you can't go around a mountain, you H A V E to go over it
Your Creator daily has a creative adventure planed for you,
And the clues are hidden in the unspoken desires of your heart
God is good, He always has been.
But in the past seven days (logged as stripes on the inside of my fake straw hat III IIII )
I learned that I can trust Him with everything ( the big little things like my future and a gardener to open a coconut )
Somewhere we became smart with air conditioning and loans, spaceships and schedules
We thought it was wise to plan, always have a plan, and make it happen ourselves.
This week I experienced nature in it's rawest form,
In Colombia they use the word:
"Tranquilo"
That would sum it up,
At peace in Nature
At peace with my Creator
And at peace with myself
( feathers, a bit extreme, in need of a comb, scavenger yet enjoying the finer things in life, adventurous, and tropically creative )
Utterly free
Wonderfully monkey like
With a deity that holds stars, flung islands into place,
Gathers waters, looks after baby birds,
Guides the wondered
And satisfies our hearts
So I conclude
To trust and follow
Onwards and upwards
( bring your water bottle, hammock, air press Coffee maker and camera, cause really there is little else you need)
