GC leadership has this strange way to give it away. Somehow we always anticipate when a challenge is on its way. It might have something to do with the sly smiles on their faces or how they manage to change a subject when it gets to close for comfort. The India Challenge was no exception! When our lecturer announced that we should close our eyes and listen carefully, Ann and Anthony could hardly contain themselves. One can hardly blame them, they knew what was ahead and this challenge is worthy of a few giggles.
First we helped the locals and got down and dirty as we planted some rice. Then we - in typical GC style- stormed an unexpected village looking for sari's and donkeys. The local sari merchant had a good day as did the donkey owner. Yellow and Blue had a lucky break and spotted a few donkeys as we entered town. One lady from each team - dressed in a sari - got a donkey ride up the curvy
road to where we met Clara.
Yellow and Blue travelled together to the Tea Factory where we tasted local Himalayan tea and took a guided factory tour. Did you know some tea plants are over 300 years old? AMAZING! At this point we had a half an hour lead over the rest, but the race for first and second was on! Yellow waved down a lift and got back to our hotel just ahead of Blue. We made the strategic decision to collect some cow dung, make our dung cookies and cook a traditional Indian meal before playing a cricket match. This proofed to be wise! As we were in our final over Blue presented their meal and just before they had the attention of the judges Tjaart hit the winning runs!
Yellow finished first and for the first time this year we stepped out as over all winners! Blue and Lime stepped up their game and tied for second. This means that Yellow in now in overall lead. A position that's been just out of our reach all year round... Now that we have it, we have no intention of
letting it go!
