Greeting the old and embracing the new!

It’s hard to put all the emotions I feel into words.  After 2 years of travelling with Global Challenge Expeditions, seeing the most amazing views, meeting the most amazing people, getting to know myself and seeing and feeling God at work… I am back home. The past month or so I have had all these feelings of elation to be back in the country I love with the people I love, but then I also experience the longing for the open road, adventure, the thrill of the unknown, the joys of living as a part of a tight-knit brotherhood and...

MAY flies (very quickly)

MAY flies (very quickly)
"But it's my last one..."  Yip, the day has arrived, it is the 31st of May and the last day of our blogging challenge. For us the day started at 5am at Tobi's house.  Everyone packed his belongings and we had some delicious oats to fill us before leaving for the bus station.  We all said our goodbyes and it was a privilege to be able to bless Tobi and his family with a prayer.  We enjoyed our stay tremendously and Welman found  his long lost sister, Pinky... the evidence was in the hair. Welman and Pinky.  Pang looking happy....

How did we get this far from God?

How did we get this far from God?
This morning was tough to get up because we only got to bed way past midnight.  Peter and Marita took us to the bar that they run and to show us some of the Phuket night life.  This was a true eye opener all of us. At the bar we each enjoyed a sundae and watched Djokovic win his round match with ease.  We enjoyed chatting to Peter and Marita and could share about each others’ cultures and languages.  They are both wonderful people and love to enjoy good company.  I must say, our stay in Karon Beach was an...

Being in the way of God's plans

Most of you guys following my journey by reading my blogs would know of our blog challenge that we had during the month of May. Our daily blogs could give you a glimpse of what we go through on a daily basis. This blog is about my time in Malaysia and Thailand. It is however not about the daily activities as you have already seen most of that. This blog is about what God personally taught me through all these experiences. We spent our last few days in Phuket with Tobi and his family. One of the days Tobi shared...

Guatemala - the truth will set you free!

Guatemala - the truth will set you free!
Being the leader of a group of missionaries would never be an easy task, and the group of young men that God picked out for me to lead was no exception.  There were and are many hurdles that I have to overcome.  Take for instance that my team consists of six exuberant and lively 18 and 19 year olds.  I really do enjoy time with them. The age gap makes it hard sometimes to relate, but luckily we have our Lord in common.  He grants wisdom to those who obey. Then there is the fact that the last time I...

Infinitely more

I am currently sitting on my hostel bed in the middle of Cairo.  This is the last night of my 2011 journey and I have a lot of mixed emotions.  On the one hand I am so excited to go back home, not only for the familiar faces and mom’s cooking, but also to see what God would have me do in the next season of my life.  On the other hand (Darren) I am saddened by the thought of having to leave the constant companionship of my team members, team mates… brothers! This year has been a rollercoaster ride...

An agricultural lesson!

An agricultural lesson!
The work Your way team was yet again very privileged this year to visit Australia and more specifically, Mountain Trails Adventure School (MT) just outside the capital city of Canberra.  It was great seeing some familiar faces at MT, but also to make new friends and build relationships with more of God’s beautiful people.  We spent just over two months at this spectacular facility where the Australian youth have the opportunity to experience the great outdoors through hiking in the hills, horse treks, caving (the great indoors?), dirt bikes, archery and most importantly, hear the Good News.  Caving and Absailing...

wYw United!

And we’re back!  There is a buzz of excitement in the camp as everyone is once again reunited after the Luke 10 journeys.  Please note that we won’t be giving much feedback on the journeys now, but extensive feedback-blogs will follow in the days to come.  Everyone is on such a spiritual high after experiencing God 1st hand for more than a week.  Not that we do not experience Him during other times, but as you can imagine, relying on God for everything you need takes a huge amount of faith and it keeps on growing.  Those of you who...

Traveling God's Highways - Part 1

The last time you heard from me was when we were at Stephan’s place in Hatyai in the south of Thailand.  Since then so much has happened.  I shall try to keep it short as I run you through Angelo, Henro and De Necker's adventures. Sunday the 8th marked the start of our Luke 10.  That meant that for the duration of the journey we had no access to personal or team money, no extra clothes than those that we were wearing and no plan.  We did have Bibles, toothbrushes, passports, I took the computer for blogging purposes and I...

Traveling God's Highways - Part 2

There we were at the bus station in Nakhon Sawan with 3 tickets to Mae Sot and money to spare.  We were overjoyed, but that still didn’t solve another problem… we have not had a wash in almost 2 days and in the humidity of Thailand, well, you would not want to sit next to us on that bus. Luckily in this part of the world they do not use western toilets.  They have those “gat-in-die-grond” toilets with a bucket with water and a scoop next to it.  We each picked a cubicle and our bodies soaked up the fresh,...
