The Story of the Traveling Travelzoonz

The Story of the Traveling Travelzoonz
The following story is based on true events. During our time in Panama I was inspired to earnestly seek child like faith. This is to Ann, Emma and Pastor Bill. "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children"- Matthew 11:25The Travelzoonz were in a land much like a prison. The land had walls around it. The clock was tickady-tock-ticking, so they took a truck and a machine bird to travel to new lands. O, it was a big truck they travelled with. A...

I heart Suriname

We spend ten days in Suriname, the second smallest country in South America with a population estimate of 500 000. The best part is they speak Dutch!    We stayed at a missionary school called Hebron Zendelingskool and fell in with their day to day program.    The school teaches self discipline in ways I have never experienced before and during the beginning of our visit I struggled to adapt to this kind of lifestyle, since I have been so used to doing things on my own time and in my own manner.   What really amazed me is the...

Jamaica, you are a star!

Jamaica, you are a star!
As we got off at the airport, I immediately felt the carefree Caribbean atmosphere and it felt like holiday. As part of the yellow team I went to St Ann's Bay, a bay near many tourist attractions on the north coast of Jamaica.   In St Ann's Bay our team experienced real Jamaican vibes.    In the words of Bob Marley "Don't worry about a thing. Every little thing is gonna be alright."    (And yes Bob Marley is an idol among most people. Most consider him as a "national hero")   The church we stayed in is about...

Learning to listen

Learning to listen
Its hard to start dancing when there is no music. Actually it is impossible to dance to the tune if you can not hear it. You will look off beat and certainly make a fool of yourself. This past month of training I learned that its not about dancing to the beat, but rather the fact that the music is always playing.   Its not really about the song playing, but do you have the ability to hear it? Faith is believing God speaks. He is always speaking to us. Playing the most beautiful melodies. Longing for us to listen....

Love that is timeless

Cuba is classic and timeless. It is the combination of buildings and cars stuck in time, the classical jazz music in the back ground, the smell of cigars and the open hearts of the people that made my experience there unforgettable and one of kind.   Absolutely everything is beautiful there. The ocean, the buildings, the people and the food. The ocean is blue with palm trees, the works; thus you still feel like you are on an island. The buildings are tall and closely built together with small streets and big windows with wooden frames. Classical European style....

First stop: Brazil

Adrenaline and excitement in the air as we walked onto the plane at OR Tambo International Airport. Finally. Three months of training and I thought I was prepared for anything and everything sent my way!   The soft voice of Jesus saying "I am sending you" and the company of fifteen believers who will soon become family. What could possibly stand against me?   But as I lay in a hammock on a boat on the Amazon River and reflect back on the last 25 days, I realize I was over confident. I had too much self confidence. Self...

I am a Broken African

I am a Broken African
After seven weeks of training our journey started and we left South Africa to discover east Africa.   We landed in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, slept there for one night and then travelled by bus to Nairobi, Kenya, the next day.   Talk about Africa at its best: the airport in Dar Es Salaam is not a closed building, but just a roof on pillars and it reminds me of a big garage where I would store farming machines in. The shops look like market stalls and every taxi driver in town tried his luck on the wide eyed "muzungus"....
