Daily Bread In Malaysia

Our Father in heaven May your name be kept holy May your Kingdom come soon May your will be done on earth As it is in heaven Give us today the food we need And forgive us our sins As we have forgiven those who sin against us And don’t let us yield to temptation But rescue us from the evil one     This was the single prayer in my heart as we landed at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport in Malaysia-East a few weeks ago in June. As a pioneering country, I will lie if I say that...

A Journey off Faith and Fun

Rewinding: Leaving Canzibe, Transkei, early on the morning of 18 February, in an over packed 'bakkie' type taxi, seemed as normal and innocent as any other morning.... But what came next was yet more proof that nothing in Global Challenge is ever as it seems, least of all normal or 'innocent'! Divided into teams of 5-6 people, each person received R200 in cash and a note that read 'Transkei Challenge', and what happened after that was as unpredictable as predicting the weather! Going Overboard!

It’s the last week before heading down to Jeffrey’s Bay:  preparing, packing, making final arrangements, saying goodbyes, eating way to much of my mother’s food, dealing with emotions (mostly those of my parents) …  All of this in just a few days!  But the thing that keeps me preoccupied for the most of these last days, are my (lacking) funds for the year – who will help me with it, how much will they give, what more do I have to do?  Then it hit me, practice what you preach, and go overboard!   Yes, you heard right, go overboard! ...

Destination: Transkei

Destination: Transkei
From 'blikskud' (fundraising) to sanding and painting walls;  taking of old roofs and replacing it with a brand new one;  from tents blowing away (and leaking!) to evangelising and building relationships;  from chasing pigs and running away from snakes to riding in taxis packed to the roof . . . 2 weeks in the Transkei had it all and even so much more!!!   2 Weeks ago we left the comfort of our base camp in Jeffrey's Bay, heading to Coffee Bay in the Transkei.  On our way there we had to stop over in Port Elizabeth to raise more funds (‘blikskud’) to...

Where is the love...

People kill, and people are dying
Children hurt, can you hear them crying?
Do we practice what we preach,
Or do we turn the other cheek?
Father Father, help us
Send some guidance from above
‘Cause people got me questioning,
Where is the love?

Black Eyed Peas - Where is the love?
