People think to be an evangelist you have to be a certain spiritual level with God, have you to be fasting and praying, asking God earnestly to bring someone across our path just so we can turn them to Jesus. Although our hearts should be longing for such things as these, this shouldn’t be our motives of wanting to evangelise.
Let’s first start off with what “evangelism” means. It doesn’t mean you walk up to random people and try convert their beliefs to yours. Even if we tried it is not us who can convert anyone anyway, but God who touches hearts and changes lives. It does not mean that when they reject you, you should get upset and scream at them that they are going to hell. Evangelism is simply going out to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, tell people about the Good News, pray for them and this should be all done in LOVE. If not, what you doing is meaningless. (1 Cor 13)
We love because he first loved us (1 John 4:19) We don’t evangelise for ourself, we don’t do it for self pride but we do it because we love. We have been given free of charge and that is why we give free of charge (Matt 10:8). We are merely just an overflow of Gods love in our life, and we have the privilege of being able to over flow that “LOVE” onto Gods people, whom he loves. And those 2 weeks we had in Johannesburg is how we overflowed our love into Gods people.
Many people during those 2 weeks were touched by the “love” of God. Physical healings were taking place as well as emotional healings. People throwing their crutches on the ground because God has healed there lower limbs. Peoples lives and relationships as well as marriages being restored. And the most beautiful thing is that people were encountering God and surrendering their lives and returning them back to the father.
One quick testimony I’d like to share:
On the Saturday we had a Crusade with many people coming from the informal settlements around Johannesburg. It was such a powerful time of the Holy Spirit moving amongst the meeting. There was one man in particular that I prayed for who had a painful joint problem in his right shoulder for 2 years. This was caused by walking on crutches since he was 6, as he was born with polio. He couldn’t go long distances and didn’t enjoy moving around anymore because of the pain. After praying for healing over his shoulder, a huge smiled hugged his face from ear to ear while he exclaimed, “The pain is no more!” We rolled his should and he was without pain. Praise God!
There are so many lessons and testimonies I can take out from the week in Johannesburg with Brain Blount and his team. But what really stood out for me is that God is willing to heal but it is not about our ability but our availability which determines whether we will pray for that person or not. God is the one who heals we just need to step out and be obedient towards him.
