Hi friends and fam. What an amazing two weeks!!! Sorry that I haven't been in contact, but we went to an adventure camp site outside Uitenhage called Die Bos. No electricity and no cell phone as it fell in the Gamtoos river on our way there. What was I doing in the Gamtoos... well, let me give you the headlines from the start.
5h Teus day morning (2 Feb) we were woken by the leadership to start our challenge (if you've seen the Amazing Race, you'll have a faint idea). We had to travel from Jbay to PE and then to Uncle Freddies on the Jbay - Uitenhage road with R200, no food or transport organized. But before we arrive at out destination, we had to fit wetsuits, raise R400, get a chicken and name it, go horseriding, supertubing, cross the Gamtoos river not using the bridge that was right there, take picture at the campanile tower, the fire dept, fort frederick, St Georges, the Nelson Mandela stadium and greet someone at the airport...to name but a few.
After all of this and 2 days of sleeping at the airport, eating simba chips and bokkie pelony on buns, we arrived in the Bush... just to find out that we are getting divided into diffrent teams from the ones we just travelled in and we are going to play a bit of survivor for the next 2 days.
We had to build a shelter for the rain, compete against the other teams in challenges 3 times per day for food and immunity. The better you do in the challenge, the better your food and vica versa (spelling?).
After 2 days of this, we moved to the camp site and spent the rest of the time there. During the day we would have teachings and fun team building activities and at night you would crash down in your own fort ( tent, your only alone time) and sleep like a log.
I learnt soooo much about team dynamics, myself and the Lord, it is frightening. I can honestly say that these past 2 weeks have changes my way of thinking and living. Just amazing.
We also had the chance of being team leaders for the GLA kids who had a camp there over the last weekend. What an experience to take these boys and to minister to them. A huge responsibility and a big learning experience. I was totally humbled to hear some of their stories and just made me realize the grace that God had over my life in my forming years.
Now back in Jbay, hot showers an ice cream have never been this good.
Thank you for all who have given financially and who have prayed for the team and me. Please keep on praying for our journey, unity in the group, safety and our finances.
Much love
De Necker
