From: Panajachel to Cancun
Distance: 1200km
Budget: Q260 per person
Time: 3 days
We started of taking as many busses as we can to get as far as possible. As we were riding in a chicken bus we suddenly stopped and were told to walk the rest of the way. We didn’t know what was going on until we saw that a landslide covered the road. We did not get a refund for the distance that wasn’t covered. We took our bags and started to look for a next bus, but by God’s grace a man with a van came from behind. We put out a thumb and said where we are heading and whoala, free lift. Bus after bus we got hungrier. But in almost every bus we had the chance to talk to people about the gospel. From unbelievers to followers of Christ that wanted answers. While I was talking to this girl my head stared to pain and moments
after that she said that her head is paining too. I thought “sweetness!” this is God’s moment to shine. I asked if I could pray for her. She said she is a Christian so “yeay sure”. So I prayed for her and both our heads were healed instantly. So from there on it was so cool. The Holy Spirit was taking thought me a couple of times, I just listened to what I am answering to her. I was quoting scripture like never before. You should try it sometime, just give over to the lord let Him do the talking. Then you could answer all the questions.
We finally we reached the boarder of Mexico. They were very friendly. We went to the bathroom for free and they gave us water and they didn’t even search our bags. (Not that that would be a problem.) We took taxis and kept moving on until we reached San Cristobal. We slept on the bus station on soft benches under a roof for free, what a blessing! The next morning we asked God that to do because we didn’t have
enough money for the bus ride to Cancun. He said that He will provide the money; we should not Hitch-hike. We grabbed the guitar and did some blikskud / street performance combo, singing gospel songs to Mexico. Within the half hour that we had before the bus was leaving we received 179 Prestos, a few short of what we needed. We went to the bus driver and, thank you Jesus, he said it is fine we can go.
A long drive with almost no food was ahead of us. We had no idea how long it was going to be. At one time I was almost seeping, Rueben tapped me and showed me something. Something so beautiful that I could not take my eyes of it.
-It was 6
tortillas and a piece of chicken. -
The people in the bus randomly just gave us food. How awesome is that? So the ride went on and on. The bus stopped at a restaurant next to the road. We were so thirsty, tired and hungry. A whole lot of prayers went up and nothing came. Until the end, just as the bus was about to leave. The people left a bit of their food and a jug full of tasty lemonade. The next stop was more or less the same. A man left a full, untouched, soft, sweetened bun on the table and a kid that was walking past me offered me chips. And out a nowhere a 1.5 liter water bottle was standing there and nobody took it with them to the bus. It was just standing there on the counter. I don’t understand God and I never will understand him fully. But I
know that he keeps his promises. He will provide and He will never forsake us.
After 10 busses and taxis (the last bus was 20.5 hours) and one lift it was a long walk before we found our ending destination and the best thing is, we arrived before Frikkie.
