A nations hope in the hands of a five year old.

The hope of a nation.

Written by Elzet - 19 May 2008

The dominating religion in Thailand is Buddhism, and because of all the foolish offerings and worship to Buddha, the future and hope of this nation lies within the children.

Deep within the poverty of Thailand, where families are struggling to provide enough food and not all the children can go to school, the streets are lined with spirit houses. The sun is reflecting off the gold statues and it is surrounded with bright coloured flags...

The strong smell of incense sticks, food and drinks offered to the spirits...and a beautiful Thai person worshipping Buddha. Worshipping a dead god. Bringing offerings to a statue. Placing all their hope in a man-made god.

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. I experienced the truth of this statement. This picture of Thailand broke my heart into pieces. Not even a thousand slandering words against me can break my heart more than this picture.

God gave me a heart for Thai people, especially the children. There is one special little girl in this village that climbed into my heart the very first day that I looked into her big, brown eyes. Her family is really poor but she is just a bundle of joy. Running and playing in the streets, giving high-fives to evryone, and running towards you with this big smile, begging you to swing her around and around and around...When she's cuddled up in my lap and looking up at me with her gig, brown eyes, her face lightens up into tGreat timeshe most beautiful smile. A joyful smile revealing little broken, rotten teeth. As I mentioned, her family is really struggling to survive properly. Her mother can't provide sufficient care. But they ave a big spirit hoouse and I often see her mother worshipping Buddha. Giving food and drinks to Buddha. Burning incense sticks with the hope of a blessing from a dea god. Every time I see this my heart broken into another thousand pieces. Every time I want to shout at the top of my lungs: "You have the most precious little daughter tht desperately needs your care, love and attention! Stop wasting it on dead gods. Put your hope in god and He'll provide and bless you abundantly." I know that I can't do that. But every time that her precious daughter cuddles in my lap, I can pray for her. I can pray God's love, blessings, mercy and grace over this child. I pray it over allt he children and since I'm serving the ony true living God, I trust that He will bless these children and take them into His arms and just pour His love over them.

Through the ministry in this village the children attend a kids program every weekend. they learn about Jesus and the Bible and from a young age they have the privilige of knowing the truth. The parents are worshipping Buddha, while the children sing praises to the King. The hope and future of Thailand lies within these children. Jesus lies within these children and He's the hope of all nations.

"Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it."

                                                                              Luke 18: 16-17

These children may face the challenge of being a first generation Christian and all the hardships and persecution that come with it in a Buddhism orientated country. They need all the support and prayer in the world. They have the ultimate challenge: leading their families to Christ. Through these children revival can take place in Thailand. But if they fail, only a miracle can save Thailand. Remember these kids and pray for them persistenty so that God will lead and guide them on the right path.

With love,

Elzet
