I think one of the best things to hear is your own name being called out. There is an automatic mindset of feeling important without even doing something. Somebody is recognizing me...
This is probably how Moses felt when God called him from the burning bush “God called to him from within the bush “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am” (Exodus 3:4). Just imagine that feeling of being called by the Creator of the universe. The funny thing is Moses did not know what he got himself into but that is the beautiful thing of being “called.”
Then God called Moses to one of the most significant and impossible tasks of all time, the saving of an captive nation from the biggest powerhouses of that time- Egypt. If you think that is amazing listen to this one... Moses was probably the most fearful person God could have chosen. Why? He’s speech was not the best : “Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue” (Exodus 4:10).
So what is making this story so significant? I have picked up four amazing things God has shown me in this story. First, it is not about your ability but about your availability. Moses could not talk well and was very afraid but he made himself available. Second, Moses listerined to God. Listing is one of the most difficult things to do but it’s definitely one the most amazing things when you actually give it a chance. Through listening Moses knew exactly what to do and obeyed it. Third, the question of “what is in your hand” is vital to this story. This is the question God asked Moses when Moses asked what must I do if they don’t believe me (Exodus 4:1-3). The staff Moses had in his hand was the tool God gave him to do the powerful work of God. Finally the last thing I learned and the words most spoken by God in the word is: “I will be with you.” Come on, that is quite encouraging, knowing the Creator of the universe is on your side. This is when the impossible turns possible.
The beautiful thing is the story does not end there. God is actually calling you, yes you. God wants to use you to go and make the impossible-possible. God wants you...
Just remember it is not about your ability but about your availability. It is not about trying to figure out but instead about listening. Then what is in your hand? Moses had a staff, what do you have? Yes that ice cream in your hand can change someone’s life forever. Finally the Creator of the Universe is with you wherever you go.
Are you ready? Because your Name is important to Him!
