From Colombia we took a VERY long busride through Equador and after about 56hours we were finally in Peru. In Ferrenafe we received a much needed South African welcome from our Peru hosts, Oom Hendrik en Tannie Ronel Groenewald. Tannie Ronel greeted us with: ''Come inside, I have rusks and coffee for you.'' With the mention of rusks we were almost in tears.
In Ferrenafe we rested a few days and ate Tannie Ronel's South African meals. From Ferrenafe we went to Trujillo to present a workshop on Global Challenge. The people of Trujillo welcomed us with open arms and flooded our team with their love. We visited a few churches and schools in Trujillo to tell our stories and to encourage the people. Some nights the fellowship continued until 1AM. After the week we were all very tired but satisfied with what God has done in us and through us in Trujillo.
We went back to Ferrenafe to rest for about 2 days and then made our way to Incahuasi. Incahuasi is a small village in the mountains of Peru, 3000m above sealevel. The people in the district are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent and still dress in traditional clothing. This is where Oom Hendrik and Tannie Ronel stayed when they first came to Peru and they still have their house there. It is a 3 storey mud house and has that farm house feeling. In our time in Incahuasi the guys started work on a retaining wall behind the house and the girls helped to clean and do some interior decorating in a weaving shop. What a special privilege to have been able to see this special village.
In Ferrenafe we had the chance to rest again for a day and then we took a bus to Lima to visit Daniel's parents' church. We spent about 4 days in Lima in which we shared our stories and prayed for some businesses in which members of the church are involved.
Next stop... Machu Picchu! We spent a day in Cusco, travelled from Cusco to Aguas Caliente, this included a 2hour hike, woke up at 4AM to hike up to the ruins. Had a tour of the ruins and then hiked down again. We found our taxi and made our way back to Cusco from where we took a bus to Bolivia. Wow, wow, wow. What an amazing experience to have been able to see this part of Peru. To see our Creator's creativity! We are in awe.
