A Journey to somewhere

I always thought the destination was more important than the journey, which I now know, is not the case. I think we’re all pilgrims in some or other way. Maybe not in the literal sense, but if you think about it we all go through life figuring out what we would like for it to be. Then we make these ideas our end destination. We put a lot of focus into it and concentrate all our energy on it. So much so that we tend to miss the things along the way that make big differences in our lives.

I think this idea is especially applicable for us as Christians.

For as long as I can remember I’ve been focused on my end destination in terms of my relationship with God and some other things like social status, marriage, kids and career. Now if I said that the road on which you travel is more important than that destination I believe you’d say “that it’s obvious.” I think most people have thought of their end destination and missed the crucial points along the way. I think, as obvious as it is, we still miss the journey now and then. Well I do.

I have caught myself time and again, wishing I could  have moved past certain situations that I was frustrated with. And not all of them are always bad. Sometimes truly wonderful and amazing things happen, but its simply not the time to dwell on it. The pursuit for some dreams just have to be saved for later. So I’ll save it for later.

Be where your are. Be in your journey. I think there is something truly significant in keeping your focus on the now, especially what God is inviting you to in the now.
