During our time in Kuala Lumpur, the school had a movie fundraising event and we got to see the movie – Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Even though I initially did not see as many parables in this movie as I did in the first one on the Chronicles of Narnia, there are a few things that stood out on which God has been challenging me. I’ll try to tell you about some of them, without giving the movie away.
Through the comments and remarks of one of the Narnia characters I once again realized how careful we should be about what we say and think, for our thoughts become our words and our words our actions. Every thought should be taken captive and brought under submission of Christ. If we do not do this, we’re heading for big trouble and will give the devil a foothold in our lives. I also saw how easily we can go astray if we turn our focus away from the One we are following. We are to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the perfector and author of our faith at all times.
nFrom one of the main characters, I also saw that even if others don’t believe us regarding our faith, we should not follow others, but keep on following Him whom we believe in. And when there are times where we fail in doing this, we should not make excuses or think of reasons why we failed, but rather just acknowledge that we were doing wrong, repent and fix our eyes on Him again. A simple “I am sorry” might be all it takes for us to be able to move onto a new page.
One of the main themes that stood out for me was that in our own strength and with our own plans we will not be able to fight victoriously in this battle. Rather, we will do more harm than good. In Zach 4:10 God says “not by might or power, but by my Spirit”. That’s the only way to take on this battle.
There was also a scene in the movie where all the kings and queens and prince Caspian bows before Aslan (the lion). He then says, “Rise kings and queens of Narnia”, upon which all of them except prince Caspian rises. Then Aslan says: “All of you” on which Caspian replies that he does not think he is ready to be a king and Aslan’s reply is, “for this very reason I know you are”. Once again I just realized it is when we think that we are not ready for what is ahead, that we are, for then it is not us, but Christ in us who will be in control.
I hope that you also may find encouragement through some of these lessons from Narnia. I think that I’ve been able to see them because it is some of the things about which God’s been speaking to me the past 3 weeks. And there is more, but you’ll have to read some of my other blogs for more on that.
Blessings
Marisa
